Curfew relaxed in trouble torn DK District

Curfew will be lifted between 7 am and 7 pm on Oct 10, however section 144 will be imposed for ensuring security and peace. Speaking to SahilOnline, SP B Dayananda said that Mangalore and around has been peaceful and the police has left no stone unturned to restore peace and avert any untoward incidents.

Karnataka Home minister M P Prakash who visited the people injured in the riots paid a visit to the riot affected areas. Speaking to the press he said that a judicial enquiry into the condition is not needed as the police have taken necessary steps.

Further he said that government is contemplating of compensating the loss occurred during the bundh through the organizations who called for the bundh adding that the decision will be taken after discussion with the chief minister and deputy chief minister.

The state is also planning to ban certain organization, said Prakash. He also opined that the so called moralists should not take law into hand, but must inform the police.

The government is planning to provide compensation to the families of those who died in the riots and also towards the treatment of those who are seriously injured.

Earlier Authorities today relaxed curfew for four hours this morning in trouble torn areas of Mangalore and its neighbourbood as the situation after a spree of violence that left two killed and 90 injured, limped back to normalcy.

Curfew was relaxed in Ullal and Konaje besides Mangalore city and rural Mangalore as no fresh incidents of violence was reported overnight, Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao told UNI.

People came out of their homes in droves and rush to shops to buy provisions and other essential commodities.

Schools and colleges had been closed for two days till tomorrow.

Mr Rao said if the situation improved further, lifting of curfew could be considered by this evening.

However, night curfew is likely to continue in sensitive areas.

Karnataka Home minister M P Prakash, Union Minister of state for Home Prakash Jaiswal, Congress leader Janardhan Pujari and Union Minister Oscar Fernandes would be visiting the trouble hit areas in the district today.
